Oxnard Union High School District adopted digiCOACH under former superintendent Dr. Gabe Soumakian's leadership during the 2012-13 school year. After rolling out digiCOACH with a custom edition informed by the districts WASC findings, Kathleen Beckham, former AVID® District Director at Oxnard UHSD, expressed her interest in developing an edition of digiCOACH to support the implementation of WICOR® strategies school wide. digiCOACH worked with WICOR® experts from Oxnard UHSD to develop our College Prep Edition.

Enhancing Educational Excellence: The digiCOACH Journey in Oxnard Union High School District

Oxnard Union High School District joined forces with digiCOACH to tackle key challenges: boosting student involvement in class and strengthening the bond between students and teachers. This initiative was all about enhancing the educational experience for everyone involved.

District leadership set an ambitious goal of frequent walkthroughs which resulted in over 7,000 classroom visits with digiCOACH completed in a single school year. This rigorous approach led to significant improvements:

District-wide Implementation Results

Administrators used a custom digiCOACH edition which reflected WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) identified needs with the goal of increasing student engagement and student-teachers relationships.

Increased Teacher Coaching: The district conducted over 7,300 classroom walkthroughs in a single year, demonstrating a strong commitment to monitoring and enhancing teaching and learning practices.
Reduced Suspensions: A significant 40% reduction in suspension rates was achieved, indicating a more positive and supportive school environment that fostered better student behavior.
Increased Attendance: There was a 0.9% increase in average daily attendance, reflecting higher student engagement and participation in school activities.
Additional Funding: The boost in Average Daily Attendance (ADA) contributed to nearly $1 million in extra funding, underlining a positive return on investment for the district's efforts in improving student engagement and attendance.

Oxnard High School Shines

Oxnard High School had specific targets: increasing graduation rates, implementing WICOR® strategies across the school, and promoting a positive atmosphere with PBIS strategies. Their achievements were remarkable:

Graduation Rates: The graduation rate soared to 96% in the 2015-16 school year, surpassing the district average by 12%. This achievement not only highlighted the effectiveness of the targeted interventions but also set a new benchmark for academic success within the community.
Special Education API: The Academic Performance Index (API) for Special Education students witnessed an unprecedented increase of 78 points showcasing the inclusive and adaptive nature of the educational strategies employed.
Suspension Rates: The number of suspensions dramatically decreased from 518 in the 2012-13 school year to 162 in 2015-16, reflecting the school's commitment to creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment.
A-G Rates: The A-G completion rates, a critical measure of college readiness, saw a 7% increase from the 2013-14 school year, indicating enhanced academic preparedness and opportunities for students.
